I got ChatGPT to write me a recipe, and I was pleasantly surprised.
ChatGPT is an artificially intelligent chatbot system that can answer questions in a matter of seconds, so when I asked it to give me a dinner recipe for a family of three, it was presented on the screen instantaneously.
ChatGPT is taking over the lives of university students everywhere, from writing assignments to answering comical questions, there is no escaping it. The website was launched on November 30, 2022, by San Francisco based company OpenAI, and grows in intelligence with each use.
The AI system generated a recipe for “One-Pot Creamy Chicken Alfredo," a dish originating from Italy under the name of Fettuccine Alfredo. But over time, the Americans have developed it into a dish of their own.
At first glance, I noticed that the recipe was extremely simple and didn’t overcompensate with extravagant words and instructions. I particularly appreciated ChatGPT leaving out the description of how to cut an onion and dice the chicken. I always think this is a waste of time, and just makes recipes a lot longer than they need to be.
The recipe was measured in cups and ounces, an indicator of ChatGPT’s American origins. This caused some difficulty, and I had to use Google to work out exactly how much I needed in ml and grams.
The recipe seemed bland to begin with, as I was just placing unseasoned chicken into a pot of onions. But as time went on and the mixture of chicken stock and double cream went into the pot, I could smell the aroma all around the kitchen.
I was unsure about putting the uncooked pasta straight into the pot, due to many reasons but mostly because I did not believe my pot was big enough. Although I did end up having to add more stock, veering away from the recipe, as the pasta shells were not fully immersed into the pot. Eventually, the pasta did begin to soften, and the liquid thickened.
Overall, the recipe was a success. Both my mum and dad thoroughly enjoyed the meal, as did I, with three portions left over for the next night’s dinner. Although the recipe did say it was meant for three, I believe we may just have had smaller portion sizes than what the recipe was set out for.
I would be more than willing to give this another try, either by asking ChatGPT for a cocktail recipe or even an arts and crafts activity. If you have any suggestions, then please leave a comment in the ‘Contact Us’ section below.
